Whether you or a tired mum, busy with work, or both, I think it is so important to take time out for yourself to recharge!
My all time favourite spa is Fletcher’s Cottage Spa at Archerfield. When I step in the door the scent and mood relaxes me almost immediately! I went with a friend recently, relatives having offered to look after the babies, and we left feeling so refreshed.
The spa is small, consisting of one marine steam room, herb aroma sauna and a Mud Rasul. If you are looking for a swimming pool and a thermal suite experience this isn’t for you. However I prefer a smaller spa as it has more of an intimate feel. Archerfield also has the most relaxing lounge with log burners. We sat chatting here all afternoon, enjoyed some fizz, and had afternoon tea which was delicious!
The relaxation lounge over looks a walled herb garden, where you can sit outside on a nice day. There are two private bath huts in the garden, each complete with a wood burning stove and radio to play music. To begin with I thought why would you pay money to have a bath?! However it is actually so nice just making the time to have a bath with no distractions. You can have a seaweed bath to detox, or one with aromatherapy oils to relax or uplift, depending what mood you are in. I chose a relaxing oil and it was so peaceful I totally lost track of time which is always a good sign!
Archerfield’s treatment menu offers many options using different products. The selection is great, ranging from Sisley to Spiezia Organics. I would say Sisley is more of an indulgent treat, however there are also more affordable products available. When I was pregnant I had the “pregnancy pamper” treatment by Spiezia Organics which was amazing and would be a fab gift for any mama to be.
I wanted to mention great alternatives if you simply can’t find the time!
Intercity Mobile Therapists come out to your home to carry out a variety of treatments, including massage and facials. I would highly recommend Alanna, she is great at massage and getting rid of stubborn knots. I love how you can book online via the app, and make appointments on the day (subject to availability). The therapists travel within Edinburgh and the Lothians (dependant on distance). I have had a massage at 9pm in the house whilst Flynn slept, which was bliss!

Within the Edinburgh area Kirstine Henderson is a fantastic home therapist. Kirstine makes her own skincare which is all natural, and, where possible, organic. Ingredients include Aloe Vera, Echinacea and Lavender. The body oils smell amazing and range from rebalancing, detox, to relaxation. Treatments include massage, facials and also reiki and reflexology. I have had reflexology which really helped me relax and destress. I also wanted to mention one of Kirstine’s products, angel gel. It is a healing gel and helps soothe burns, heat rash, bumps and inflammations. I have used it on bites and spots, and it really did help with the inflammation. This can be purchased in a small size, 5ml, to try it out for yourself!
Treatments can be booked with Kirstine via her website Angel Gel.
I am also a big fan of home facials, I love Lush fresh face masks. They are so reasonably priced and feel amazing on your skin. My favourite is the Brazened Honey. It contains ground almonds to gently exfoliate and honey to retain moisture. The masks are kept in the fridge and have a short shelf life, so it is best to use them three times a week to get the most out of it. Also if you save five clean tubs and return to the store, you get one fresh mask for free!
I know it is hard to find the time to pamper ourselves, but whether it is a spa day or just doing a face mask for ten minutes at home, it makes such a difference to how we feel about ourselves.
If you have any spa recommendations I would love to hear about them!
